I had half a mind to break into the Natural History Museum and find my way up to the summits of the towers, in order to see across the park. I turned northwards, 《marvelling》, (towards the iron gates of Hyde Park). I had half a mind to break into the Natural History Museum and find my way (up to the summits of the towers), (in order to see across the park). But I decided to keep to the ground, 〔where quick hiding was possible〕, and so went on (up the Exhibition Road).
感情系の動詞って、surpriseとかpleaseとか、過去分詞でその気持ちになったことを表現するのがほとんどなのに、marvelだけは違いますよね。
全訳
「ウラ、ウラ、ウラ、ウラ」と人外の音程で悲しそうに泣いていた。その大きな音は、日光が照る広い道の建物の間を埋め尽くしていった。まだ呆然としたまま北方ーーハイド・パークの鉄門のほうに体を向けた。公園を見渡すためにイギリス自然史博物館に押し入って、塔の頂上までの何とか上ってみようという考えも脳裏に浮かんだが、すぐ隠れられるように高所には上らないことに決め、エキシビション・ロードを進んでいった。
