She was full of speculation* that night about the condition of Mars, and scoffed* at the vulgar* idea of its having inhabitants* who were signalling us. 1.　全訳参照。前置詞ofの後だから、「it has inhabitants」が元だと思って訳せばいいですね。
2.　茶色の「of」の意味は、「～という」（同格）。情報とか考えを表す名詞のあとにofが来たらまずは同格を疑ってみましょう。逆に英作文では下手に同格ofを使わないように。
3.　オレンジの「or」がつないでるものは、２つのthat。オギルヴィーナちゃんの考え。
4.　ピンクの「it」が指すものは後ろのthat以下。itーthat形式主語ですね。
5.　紫の「chance」の意味は「可能性」。
6.　緑の「a million to one」の意味は直訳すると「百万分の一」。まあ「万に一つ」としておけばいいですね。

全訳

オギルヴィーナちゃんはあの夜、火星の状態で頭がいっぱいで、わたしたちに信号を送っている住人が火星にいるという無教養な考えをばかにしていた。オギルヴィーナちゃんの考えは隕石が火星上に激しい雨のように降っているか、巨大な火山の爆発が進行中か、ってところで、隣接する惑星で自然進化が同じルートをたどってくるなんてありえないと指摘した。「火星に人間のようなやつがいるって可能性は万に一つだ」とオギルヴィーナちゃんは言っていた。
