「milking stool」はこんなもの。三本足の台ね。
三脚型の火星人のロボを説明するためにこの段落で例示されているわ。

And this Thing I saw! How can I describe it? A monstrous* tripod*, higher than many houses, striding* over the young pine trees, and smashing* them aside in its career*; a walking engine of glittering* metal, striding now across the heather*; articulate* ropes of steel dangling* from it, and the clattering* tumult* of its passage mingling* with the riot* of the thunder. A flash, and it came out vividly, heeling* over one way with two feet in the air, to vanish and reappear almost instantly as it seemed, with the next flash, a hundred yards nearer. Can you imagine a milking stool tilted* and bowled* violently along the ground? That was the impression those instant flashes gave. But instead of a milking stool imagine it a great body of machinery* on a tripod stand.

1. 紫のandが繋いでるものは、higher…, striding…, smashingです。ひたすらそのロボットを説明する言葉が続いていきます。
2. 緑のitsが指しているものは、this Thing（ロボット）です。passageはpass（通過する）の名詞形ね。
3. オレンジのitが指しているものも同じくthis Thing。a flashではないかな。
4. 青のto不定詞の用法は結果用法かな。といっても、came outのあとにvanish、そしてreappearという時間の流れがわかってればそれっぽく訳すだけですからあんまり用法は関係ないです。
5. 茶色のasのについては、特に用法の名前があるわけでもないですが、前に出て来た状況を補足説明するという働きです（いちおう品詞的には接続詞）。「reappear」したのが「a 100 yards nearerのように見えた」と、付け加えてるわけですね。だからなくてもOKです。Genius英和辞典には「as it seems：見たところ」「as it happens：折よく」といった例が載っておりました。
そういう意味では、as we know it（わたしたちが知っている～）と近いのかもしれないですね。
6. 青アンダーラインの部分は、命令文。imagine O to be Cのto beが略されたものと思っていいと思います。
全訳
そしてこいつを見たのだ！どう説明すればいいだろうか？家より大きく、怪物のように大きな三脚状のロボットだ。若い松の木を大またで歩きながらなぎ倒していた。光沢のある金属でできた歩く機械だった。ロボットはヘザーの野原を歩き出した。関節がある細い鋼鉄のアームがブラブラと揺れて、歩いているときにガチャガチャとやかましい音を立てていた。その音は雷の爆音と混ざって聞こえた。稲光が鮮やかにロボットを照らし出した。その瞬間は２本の足をうかせて、一方向に体を傾けるようにしていたが、すぐ見えなくなった。ほぼ瞬時に、次の稲光が走りふたたび現れた。見たところ100ヤードも進んでいた。三脚椅子が傾斜姿勢で、すごい速度で乱暴に地面を蹴っているのが想像できるだろうか？そうした瞬時の稲光で見えたロボットからは、そんな印象を受けた。でも、三脚椅子というよりは、三脚台に乗った巨大な機械をイメージしてくれるといいかもしれない。
