1.　赤のandが繋いでるものは、were tied と could crawl。
2.　青アンダーラインの部分について、butはonlyの意味です。cannot but V「Vせざるを得ない」と混同しないようにしましょう。itは the pitです。
3.　赤アンダーラインの部分は、if it had not been for～がなかったら（ここではif省略仮定法過去完了）が使われている部分です。「urge O to V」（OにVするよう強く促す）とかも大事。

全訳

ターちゃんは馬車での移動中、不思議なほど静かだった。ターちゃんは悪い予感に気が滅入っているようだった。わたしは安心させようとしてターちゃんに話しかけた。「火星人は穴から動けないって。体重そのものがおもすぎるからさ。まあ、せいぜいちょっと這い出るくらいだよ」と。でもターちゃんは一言二言みじかく答えただけだった。シルカさんと約束していなければ、その夜レザーヘッドにとどまるようにターちゃんは強くわたしを引き留めただろう。そうだったらよかったのに！今も覚えているが、別れたときのターちゃんの顔はとても蒼白だった。
