“Take some whisky,” I said, pouring out* a stiff* dose*.
She drank it. Then abruptly she sat down before the table, put her head on her arms, and began to sob* and weep* like a little girl, in a perfect passion of emotion, while I, with a curious forgetfulness of my own recent despair, stood beside her, wondering*.

全訳

その子はほとんど機械的にわたしについてきて、ダイニングルームに入った。
「ウィスキーでもどうだ」と言って、強めの一杯を注いでやった。
彼女は飲み終わると不意にテーブルの前に座り、腕に顔をうずめて小さい女の子のようにすすり泣き始めた。感情が完全に抑えきれなくなったのだろう。その間わたしは、当惑して隣に立ちつくしていた。不思議なことに、わたしは自分自身がついさっき経験した絶望は忘れていた。

「with a curious forgetfulness of my own recent despair」（自身の最近の絶望の不思議な忘却）のとこは名詞を変換してあげよう。「Curiously, I had forgotten my own despair I had experienced recently」（不思議なことに、わたしは自分自身がついさっき経験した絶望は忘れていた）あたりだろうな。

あとそうそう、この段階ではまだ名前を聞いてないはずだから、「ミッちゃん」とは訳に書いてないぜ。「ミッちゃん」と書けるのは次段落ぐらいからだな。
