3. 紫のandが繋いでるものは前後の２文。there smoked the Heat-Rayはthere is構文の変形バージョンみたいなやつです。
全訳
ミッちゃんは死んだ馬の下に長いこと隠れてて、ひそかに共有地の方をうかがっていた。カーディガン大隊の騎兵たちは我先にと火星人要塞に突撃を試みたが、結局殺戮されただけだった。そしてあの怪物は立ち上がり、数名の逃亡者の中ゆっくりと共有地を行ったり来たりし始めた。ロボの頭のような頭巾状の部分はちょうど、フードをかぶった人間の頭のように回転していた。一種のアームで、複雑な金属の物体を持っていた。そこから緑の閃光がほとばしっていた。この銃身のようなところから、レーザー光線が煙を上げて発射された。
