2. オレンジのbe toの用法は可能ですね。「be not to be seen」の形はよく見ます。
3. 緑のsaveの意味は「～を除いて」（≒except）。1900年ごろの文章では特に頻出です。覚えてください。
4. 紫のandが繋いでるものは、flat meadows, cows, silvery pollard willows。
5. 赤アンダーラインを書き言葉に直すと、「The soldiers will stop them」ですね。
全訳
戦闘が始まりだした。ほぼ直後、右手の川の対岸の砲兵中隊が、木に隠れて見えなかったが、一斉射撃を開始した。次々と重火力を投射していった。ある女性は悲鳴を上げた。戦闘がこんなに近くで、でもよく見えないうちに突然はじまったことでみんな呆然としていた。平らな牧草地や、ウシがほとんど無関心で草をはんでいるようす、暖かい日差しの中微動だにしない銀白色の刈り込まれた柳といったものしか見えなかった。
「兵士が食い止めてくれるだろうかね」と隣の女性が疑わしそうに言った。もやがこずえに立ち込めていた。
