1. オレンジのandが繋いでるものは、far away～, across～, stridingの３つの分詞構文ですかね。
2. 赤アンダーラインは、did they seem→they seemedのように訂正すればOKです。
「Little cowled figures did they seem」は一見、否定語littleが文頭に出ているから大丈夫そうに見えますが、このlittleは「小さい」という意味で否定語ではありませんので、倒置をしてはいけません。ここは原文では「Little cowled figures they seemed」となっており、CSV第２文型前置でした。
全訳
素早く次々と、小さい林に遮られていた１、２、３、４機の装甲火星ロボが遠くに見えた。チャーツィー方向にのびている平らな牧草地の方から、この川めがけて急いで大またで走ってきていた。最初は、小さなフードをかぶった姿で、飛ぶ鳥と同じくらいのスピードで滑らかに走っているように見えた。
