At sight of these strange, swift*, and terrible creatures the crowd near the water’s edge seemed to me to be for a moment horror-struck*. There was no screaming or shouting, but a silence. Then a hoarse* murmur* and a movement of feet—a splashing* from the water. A girl, too frightened to drop the portmanteau* she carried on her shoulder, swung* round and sent me staggering* with a blow* from the corner of her burden. A woman thrust* at me with her hand and rushed past me. I turned with the rush of the people, but I was not too terrified for thought. The terrible Heat-Ray was in my mind. To get under water! That was it!
“Get under water!” I shouted, unheeded*.

A girl, 《too frightened to drop the portmanteau* 〔she carried on her shoulder〕》, swung* round and sent me staggering* (with a blow* from the corner of her burden). 1. 赤のandが繋いでるものは、swungとsent。
2. 青アンダーラインについて、A girlがS、swungとsentがVです。sent O Vingの形で「OにVさせる」ですね。使役動詞の仲間みたいなやつですが、sent O Vではないので注意しましょう。
3. 紫のandが繋いでるものは、thrustとrushed。thrustの活用はthrust-thrust-thrustで変わりません。
全訳
これらの奇妙で速く恐ろしい生物を見て、川べりの群衆がしばらくの間恐怖でうたれていたようにわたしには思えた。悲鳴や叫び声はなく、静寂が支配していた。そして、かすれたささやき声と足音ー水をバジャバジャはねる音ーがした。ある少女は、とてもぎょっとして肩にしょっていた旅行カバンを手放してしまった。そしてその子が振り向くと、荷物の角がぶつかってわたしはよろめいてしまった。ある女の人は手でわたしを押しのけて走り去っていった。わたしは人々が走り始めたのに合わせて逃げ始めたが、ある考えがあったのでそこまでパニックではなかった。あのおそろしいレーザー光線は脳裡に焼き付いていた。水に潜ればよいのだ！それだ！
「水に潜れ！」とわたしは叫んだ。でも、届いていないようだった。
200話の節目回で悪いんだが、わたしもリッちゃんも自分の身を守るのに精いっぱいだったから、この段落あたりで自然とリッちゃんとの共同行動は解消されてしまうんだ。
だな。現役兵士のミッちゃんと一緒だったら心強かったのに。かなしい。
あれっ、ここで別れるってことは、つまり死亡ルートまっしぐら？
…リッちゃんとの行動が解消されたってだけで、まだ死んでないんだけど。
