A boatload* of people putting back* came leaping out* as I rushed past. The stones under my feet were muddy* and slippery*, and the river was so low that I ran perhaps twenty feet scarcely waist-deep*. Then, as the Martian towered* overhead scarcely a couple of hundred yards away, I flung* myself forward under the surface. The splashes of the people in the boats leaping* into the river sounded like thunderclaps* in my ears. People were landing hastily* on both sides of the river. 1.　オレンジのandが繋いでるものは、right～とheadlong～。rushedに繋がる副詞句ですね。
2.　赤アンダーラインの文型表示は、I ranがSVですけど、scarcely waist-deepがCだと見ると良いと思います。主語の状態を表していますからね。perhaps twenty feetはranの長さを説明しているので副詞句です。
3.　赤のscarcelyの意味は「かろうじて」あたり。
4.　茶色のカッコ内に入る動詞一語はtook。「take notice of」で「注意を向ける」とか。
5.　青アンダーラインは、no more～than…「…でないのと同様に～ない」の文章です。thanのあとは、a man would take notice of the…が元々です。
あと、no more notice のあとのfor the momentは挿入ってことに気をつけましょう。

全訳

わたしは再びあたりを見回し、接近している火星軍めがけて走り出した。砂利の岸辺ぎりぎりを走っていき、がむしゃらになって川に飛び込んだ。他の人も同じことをしていた。引き返していく船に乗った人々も、わたしが通り過ぎるときに飛び出していた。足元の石は泥だらけですべりやすかった。川はとても水位が低かったので、およそ20フィート（≒6ｍ）くらい走るまでは腰までの深さだった。そのとき、ロボが頭上高く、200ヤード弱の距離にそびえ立っているのが見えた。わたしは水面に身を投げ出した。ボートに乗っていた人が川に飛び込むときに水しぶきを上げていたが、その音は雷鳴のように聞こえた。人々は急いで川の両岸に上陸していた。でも火星人のロボは、そのときは、群衆があちこち走り回っているのは気に留めていなかった。蹴とばしたアリの巣の混乱に人間が注意を向けないのと同じである。半分窒息しそうになりながら水面から頭を出したとき、火星人の上部装甲は川の対岸でまだ砲撃している砲兵中隊へと向いていた。ロボが前進するとき、レーザー光線のジェネレーターだったに違いない物体はロボにぶらさがってぶらぶらと揺れていた。
