全訳
明らかに自分を守る必要があったのに、一瞬、川のこの熱さは意識になかった。激しく煮え立つ水をはねあげ、同じように逃げていた黒服の男を押しのけ、川のカーブ地点が見わたせるところまで進んだ。無人になった数隻のボートが荒れる波の上で当てもなく縦に揺れていた。崩壊した火星ロボは下流の方に見えた。ロボは川に横たわるようになっていて、大部分は水没していた。
