全訳
この後、その3体のロボットの火星人は集まって相談し、停止したようだった。様子を見ていた偵察兵は「その後30分ほどまったく動いていない」と報告を上げた。倒れたロボットの火星人はロボット頭部からノロノロと這い出てきた。小さな茶色い姿で、その距離からだと小さな暗い影を妙に連想させるものだった。火星人は見たところ脚部の修理を行っているようだった。9時ごろに作業が終わった。ロボットの頭部が再び林から上がって見えたのでわかったのだ。
1キロ先の高軌道目標を小破させるイギリス軍もすごいけど、敵陣地の中で迅速に修理を行える火星人はもっとすごいな。
