全訳

この光景を見て、アンドリューシャちゃんはかすかに出かかった悲鳴を飲み込み、走り始めた。でも、わたしは火星人から逃げることは無駄だとわかっていたので、横に這って行き、露で濡れているイラクサやノイチゴをかきわけ、道の側方の広い開渠に入った。アンドリューシャちゃんは振り向き、わたしのしていることを見ると、引き返してわたしについてきた。
2体の火星人ロボットは停止した。近い方は直立してサンベリーの方を向いており、遠い方はステインズの方におり、一番星も出ている夕空では灰色の不明瞭な物体となっていた。
