全訳

テムズ川の北の全鉄道路線と、サウス・イースタン鉄道のキャノン・ストリート駅周辺の住民については、日曜の深夜には警報が出ており、列車はぎゅうぎゅう詰めだった。人々は深夜2時にもかかわらず、立ってでもいいから列車に乗り込もうと乱暴に争っていた。3時には、リバプール・ストリート駅から数百ヤード強はなれたビショップス・ゲート駅でも、踏みつけられたり押しつぶされていた。発砲事件、刃傷事件も起きた。交通整理のために派遣された警官らは、へとへとになりストレスが溜まって、任務として守るはずの人々の頭を殴っていた。
