その早朝は信じられないほど平和で、太陽はちょうどウェイブリッジの方のマツの木を美しく照らしていて、もう暖かかった。
あの子は鳥の鳴き声をその朝聞いたのを覚えてなかった。全くそよ風は吹いておらず、唯一の音は灰にまみれた円筒の中からのかすかな動きだけだった。オギルヴィーナちゃんは共有地で完全に一人ぼっちだった。
