「穴の中にいる人を見た？」とわたしは聞いたが、それに対する返答はなかった。わたしたちは静かになり、隣り合わせになってしばらくの間眺めて立っていた。お互い一緒にいることが、ある種心地よく感じていたように思う。そのあとわたしは、１ヤード以上高い小さな丘に場所を移した。すぐに彼女を探したとき、彼女はウォーキングの方へ歩いていた。
