ターちゃんとの会話シーンだ。

“There is one thing,” I said, to allay* the fears I had aroused*; “they are the most sluggish* things I ever saw crawl. They may keep the pit and kill people who come near them, but they cannot get out of it. . . . But the horror of them!”
“Don’t, dear!” said my wife, knitting her brows* and putting her hand on mine.
“Poor Ogilvina!” I said. “To think* she may be lying dead there!”
My wife at least did not find my experience incredible*. When I (deadly* white, her, was, face, saw, how), I ceased* abruptly*.
“They may come here,” she said again and again.
I pressed* her to take wine, and tried to reassure her.
“They can scarcely move,” I said.
allay鎮める arouse起こさせる・かきたてる sluggishのろのろした crawl這う knit one’s brows眉をひそめる(≒frown)(to frown because you are thinking carefully, or because you are angry or worried(←今回はこれ）） To think～とは！(感嘆文に近い) incredible(<in+cred+ible)信じられない deadly死人のような(deadly whiteで「蒼白」くらい) ceaseやめる abruptly唐突に press O to V：OにVするよう強いる reassure(<re+assure)安心させる

1. 緑のtheyが指しているものは、もちろん火星人（the Martians）。
2. 赤アンダーラインの部分（だけ）の文型表示は上の通りの第五文型。もともとは「I ever saw the most sluggish things crawl.」の 「see O 原形」で、Oが先行詞となって前に来たからこうなってる感じ。「最上級＋(that) S have ever done」（いままでSがVする中で一番～」の変形ですね。
3. 紫のandが繋いでるものは、keep と kill。
4. 赤のandが繋いでるものは、knittingとputting。
5. 灰色のfindの意味は「わかる」「思う」。find O Cの第五文型ですからそういう訳になります。
6. 青アンダーラインの単語を並び替えると上の通り。seeの目的語なので「how 形容詞 S V」の形ですね。「how her face was deadly white」はよくやりがちなミス。
7. ピンクのandが繋いでるものは、pressedとtried。
全訳
「一つ言っときたいんだけど、火星人は今まで見た這うものの中で一番のろいよ。穴を守るために近づく人を殺すけど、自分たちはその穴の外に出られないんだ・・・・ま、でも、火星人怖いよね！」って言って、わたしはターちゃんに与えちゃった恐怖を鎮めようとした。
「やめて、リッちゃん！」と彼女は悲鳴を上げ、恐怖で眉を寄せ、手を重ねてきた。
「かわいそうなオギルヴィーナちゃん。あそこで死んで横たわってるんだろうね…。」とわたしはつぶやいた。
ターちゃんは少なくともわたしの体験を信じてないわけじゃなかった。彼女の顔がすっかり蒼白になっているのを見て、唐突に話をやめた。
何度も何度も「ここに来るかもしれないわ」と彼女が言った。
わたしはワインを取ってくるように無理に頼み、そしてターちゃんを安心させようとした。「ほとんど動けないんだってば」と言って。
ターちゃんずいぶん慌ててるね！
ターちゃんは大英帝国の「パクス・ブリタニカ」を疑わないごく普通のイギリス国民だもん。
まったく予期してないことに動揺するのは当然。
…チャーチル歩兵戦車の中で優雅に持ってた紅茶カップがパリーンってなるシーンをイメージしてね。
あと、むしろ冷静なリッちゃんの方がおかしいわ。イギリス国民じゃないみたい。
