1.　オレンジのofがかかってる語は、toldですね。「tell A of B」で「BをAに話す」です。ここの of は、ほぼ about と同じです。ofだから名詞にかかっていると思いがちですが、動詞にかかるパターンは 「know of」や「make of」など意外と結構あります。
2.　赤アンダーラインを書き換えると、It is impossible for the Martians to establish themselves on the earth.となりますね。of the Martians establishingのthe Martiansがestablishingの意味上の主語ということに気をつけましょう。
3.　紫のカッコ内に入る動詞（過去形）1語は、laid/placed/putのどれかですね。lay[place][put] stress[emphasis] on で「～を強調する」（≒emphasize, stress）です。
4.　ピンクのitは、the force of gravityです。whatが使われてますけど、three timesもありますし、比較の構文ですよね。
5.　緑のthatは、３文目（On the surface…）～５文目（…lead to him, therefore）の内容です。
6.　赤のitは、the general opinionです。
7.　茶色のbothは、The times and the Daily Telegraphです。
8.　灰色の代動詞didが指すものはoverlookedです。新聞も「わたし」も見落としてたってところです。
9.　青の「modifying」は、「the general opinion」（重力がでかすぎて動けない）を「修正する」ということですね。このtwo obvious modifying influencesの具体的説明は次段落です。

全訳

火星人が地球で体を直立させることは不可能だ、ということについてオギルヴィーナちゃんが言ったことをひたすら繰り返し、自分自身とターちゃんを励まし始めた。特に、重力の大変さを強調した。地球上では、重力は火星の３倍だ。だから火星人は、筋力が変わらないとしても、火星より３倍体重があることになるだろう。ということで、火星人はきっと体が鉛のマントのように感じられるはずだ。実際、そういうことが一般的な見解だった。
たとえば、「タイムズ」紙と「デイリー・パラグラフ」紙はどちらも次の日の朝刊でそう主張した。でも、わたしとまったく同じく、両紙は２点の明らかな修正因子を見落としていたのだ。
