1. 青のandが繋いでるものは、前後の２文(SV)ですね。There was a murmur… a novel and dominant topic…が前半、a messenger, or even an eye-witness…caused…が後半です。
2. 緑のandが繋いでるものは、a whirl, a shouting, a runningでしょう。a whirlなのかexcitementなのか迷いますが。
3. 赤のitが指しているものは、the daily routineです。as it had done のdoneは、直前のwent onを受けて、代動詞のはたらき（gone onの代わり）をしていると考えればよさそうですね。
4. 青アンダーラインの部分については、主語がthe daily routine, 動詞がwent (on)ということに気づけばOK。ここのasの意味は「～ように」かな。
5. 茶色は「as though」ですね。as if≒as thoughですが、as ifばっかりでてきてas though忘れがち。
6. オレンジのcaseの意味は辞書的な意味なら「事実」。that was the case≒that was true です。
全訳
きっと、〈火星人のことについて〉まちの道路ではひそひそ話してて、パブでは目新しい主な話題になっていたかもしれない。そしてあちこちで、あの夜遅くの事件の話を見聞きした人が、興奮の渦を巻き起こし、叫び、あちこち走り回っていた。でも、大部分において、仕事・食事・晩酌・睡眠という日常の習慣は、長年そうしてきたのと変わらずに続いていた。ーあたかも、火星なんて星は空に存在してないみたいに。ウォーキング駅・ホーセル・チョブハムでさえそうだったのだ。
