最初の「the state of the things」は、前段落で見たように、落ち着かない心理状態よ。
「you have」と現在形になってるけど、「その状況を経験したら誰でも常にそうなる」ってこと。

So you have the state of things on Friday night. In the centre, sticking into the skin of our old planet Earth like a poisoned dart*, was this cylinder. But the poison was scarcely working yet. Around it was a patch* of silent common, smouldering* in places, and with a few dark, dimly* seen objects lying in contorted* attitudes* here and there. Here and there was a burning bush* or tree. Beyond was a fringe* of excitement, and farther than that fringe the inflammation* had not crept* as yet*. 1.　青アンダーラインの文型表示は上の通り。wasが動詞、this cylinderが主語なのはいいとして、①sticking句がカンマで挟まれてる挿入とみなして、in the centerをM（修飾語）（大学英文法的に言えば付加語（A））と考え、MVS(AVS)の第一文型倒置と見る方法、②sticking句をCとみなして、CVSの第二文型倒置と見る方法　の２通りがあるような気もします。わたしはin the centerの意味が弱いような気がしたので、②で取りましたがどうなんでしょうか。
2.　緑のitが指しているものは、the cylinderですね。比喩的に言えばa poisoned dartです。
3.　青のandが繋いでるものは、smouldering…placesと、with…thereの２つの分詞構文でしょう。後半はwith O C(Ving)の形ですね。
4.　赤アンダーラインの文型表示は、主語がa patch、動詞がwasです。MVS(AVS)の第一文型倒置ということは大丈夫でしょう。
5.　赤のasの意味は、「～ように」。
6.　紫のandが繋いでるものは、clog, deaden, destroyの３つの動詞ですね。全部原形なのでわかりやすかったと思います。
7.　茶色のカッコの中に入る一語は、stillかyetです。have still[yet] to Vで、「まだVしていない」ですね。たいていはhave yet to Vの形ですので、入試ではそっちを覚えておけばOK。be yet to Vや、remain to be P.P. もほぼ一緒の意味ですのでついでに覚えておきましょう。

全訳

だから、みんな金曜の夜はそんな心理状態だったんだ。この円筒は、この古い惑星の真ん中に毒矢のように突き刺さっていた。でもその毒はまだほとんど回っていなかった。円筒の周りは静かな共有地の一帯で、各所で煙を上げていた。暗くぼんやり見える物体が手足を曲げられた姿であちらこちらに横たわっていた。そこらじゅうで低い木も高い木も燃えていた。その向こうには興奮した過激な人たちがいた。さらにその遠くにはまだ延焼していなかった。残りの世界では、太古の昔からそうだったように命の流れが依然として続いていた。まもなく静脈・動脈を詰まらせ、神経を麻痺させ、脳を破壊することになる戦争の熱気はまだ高まっていなかった。
