I and my wife stood amazed. Then I realised that the crest* of Maybury Hill must be within range of the Martians’ Heat-Ray now that the college was cleared* out of the way.
At that* I gripped my wife’s arm, and without ceremony* ran her out into the road. Then I fetched* out the servant*, telling her I would go upstairs myself for the box she was clamouring for*.
“We can’t possibly* stay here,” I said; and as I spoke the firing* reopened* for a moment upon the common.
“But where are we to go?” said my wife in terror*.
I thought perplexed*. Then I remembered her cousins at Leatherhead.
“Leatherhead!” I shouted above the sudden noise.
She looked away from me downhill*. The people were coming out of their houses, astonished*.
“How are we to get to Leatherhead?” she said.

2.　緑のandが繋いでいるものはgrippedとran。
3.　青アンダーラインについては、downhillが「ふもとの方へ」という意味だとわかってれば大丈夫。「from わたし to 丘の下」と視線が移動してるわけです。

全訳

わたしとターちゃんは驚いた。そして、いまやオリエンタル・カレッジが崩されたのだから、メイベリー・ヒルの高いところは間違いなく火星人のレーザー光線の射程内だと気づいた。すぐにターちゃんの腕をつかんで、前置きもなく道路に連れ出して走らせた。そして使用人を呼びだして、彼女がなくては困ると言った箱は自分が二階に上がって取ってきてやるからと言った。「絶対ここにはいられないんだ」と言っていると、ホーセル共有地でしばらくのあいだ射撃音がした。
「でもどこに行けばいいかしら？」と恐怖におののきながらターちゃんは言った。
困惑しながらも考え、レザーヘッドにいるターちゃんのいとこを思い出した。
「レザーヘッドだ！」と叫ぶと突然の爆音が重なった。
彼女はわたしから丘の下の方へと目を向けた。人々は家から驚きながら出てきていた。
「どうやってレザーヘッドまで行けばいいの？」とターちゃんは言った。
