全訳

「あのいやなのがもう１つそこに落下したらしいよ。No.2ね。でも１つで十分だわ、ほんとに。すべて落ち着く前に、これのせいで保険会社は大金を払うことになるだろうね。」とご近所さんが言った。彼女はこう言って、たいそう機嫌がよさそうな様子でわらった。「林がまだ燃えてるわ」と言って、薄い煙を指し示した。「彼らは何日も足元が熱いでしょうね。だって松の針のような葉と芝生の土壌が分厚いもの」といって、「かわいそうなオギルヴィーナちゃん」との声とともに真面目になった。
