2.　赤のaddressの意味は「話しかける」。他にも「取り組む・扱う」「宛てる」を覚えておきましょう。
3.　青のアンダーラインの文型表示は、ＩがS、foundがV、peopleがO、secureがCの第五文型。このときのfindの意味は「OがCだとわかった」とかのやつ。ここら辺は名詞構文だからそれっぽく訳しましょう。in the presence of the militaryは「軍の存在」つまり「軍がいること」です。
4.　茶色のカッコ内に、( ) the outskirts ofが「～のはずれに」となるように前置詞一語を入れると、on the outskirts of です。in the suburbs of (郊外に)とセットで覚えましょう。outskirtsというのは周縁だから「ふち」のイメージ（→だからon）、suburbsは郊外という「区域」のイメージ（だからin）。

全訳

でも、長い午前中ともっと長い午後のことを書いて読者のみんなを退屈させるつもりはない。わたしはホーセル共有地をまったく見られなかった。というのもホーセルとチョブハムの教会の塔でさえ軍が接収していたからだ。わたしが話しかけた兵士たちは何も知らなかったし、士官らは忙しいうえに秘密主義だった。町の人は軍が来てくれて再度とてもほっとしたようだった。タバコ屋のマーシャルさんから、娘さんが共有地の死者のうちの一人だということをはじめて聞いた。兵士らはホーセルの外縁にいる人々に、家に施錠させ避難させていた。
