To us and to an observer about Ripley it would have had precisely the same effect—the Martians seemed in solitary possession* of the darkling* night, lit only as it was by the slender moon, the stars, the afterglow of the daylight, and the ruddy* glare from St. George’s Hill and the woods of Painshill.

すまんな。以前間違った説明をしてた。ロボット1機ずつの間隔が12マイルなんじゃなくて、端から端までの距離が12マイルだ。以前の段落ではSend～Weybridgeに展開していると書かれていたが、この直線距離が7マイルくらいだから、もう少し散開していると考えればちょうどよさそうだ。
この形を「cresent」（三日月状）と言っているわけだな。

2. 紫は、「分詞+as S V」で分詞構文を強調する形ですね。入試だと、わかってるアピールのために「確かに」と訳に反映させても良いと思います。
3. 緑のandが繋いでいるものは、the slender moon, the stars, the afterglow, the rudddy glare。
全訳
火星人が時折叫んでいた遠ぼえはもう止んでいた。一切の音を立てることなく、円筒宇宙船を中心とした巨大な三日月状にポジショニングしていた。端から端までは12マイル（≒20㎞）だった。火薬が考案されて以来、戦闘の始まりが静かだったためしはない。わたしたちも、リプリーあたりで見ていた人も、まったく同じような印象を持ったことだろう。火星人のロボットが薄暗い夜を独り占めしているようだった。細い月、星、日暮れ後の薄明、セント・ジョージ・ヒルやペインシルの林からの赤みを帯びた光のみを受けていた。
散開陣形を「cresent」といいつつ、三日月のことは「cresent」とせずに「slender moon」としているのはおしゃれです。
